UBUNTU CONFERENCE 2020

The “Ubuntu” conference which took place in Buea, started at 11:30am with an opening prayer from one of the Volunteers. This was followed by a welcome address from the Mcee of the day Mbiseh Clara who also introduced the members of the High Table in the persons of: Prof. Ernest Molua (Registrar at the University of Buea), Dr. Ayuk Justin (Vice Dean Faculty of Social and Management Sciences University of Buea), Miss Lyonga Mwindo Noela (Founder/Chief Executive Officer Noela Lyonga Foundation), Sona Rolland (representative Divisional Officer of Buea-Sub-district Mr. Abba Addouraman), Miss Ewusi Annette (President of the Change Initiative), Mr. Che Herbert the (Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Touching Lives International) and Mr. Tetu Hilary (Volunteer Coordinator – Noela Lyonga Foundation).

After this presentation of the High Table, the next presentation that followed was a background explanation about the Noela Lyonga Foundation which was done by Sharon Menkem a volunteer with the Foundation. Her presentation explained that, the Noela Lyonga Foundation is a Non – governmental organisation with headquarters in Buea, the south west region of Cameroon. The Foundation has as vision to inspire people develop themselves and communities at large and it operates under four (4) departments: promoting a healthy lifestyle, providing volunteer placements, community empowerment and the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. She also gave details that the foundation has received national and international acknowledgements among which are: the 11th Points of Light in the Commonwealth from Her Majesty the Queen of England, International Leading Organisation in the Foreign Commonwealth Office with an honorary visit to Sheffield, Manchester and London (UK) and Ghana. The 5th Most Influential Youth led Organisation in Cameroon, the Youth Empowerment Actors award, the MOGI Global Leadership awards among others.

These highlights about the Noela Lyonga Foundation ushered the next presentation which was a global and inspirational musical interlude which was done by Miss Moh Harriet a UNESCO Peace Ambassador and an Alumni Volunteer of the Noela Lyonga Foundation. Her interlude was followed by another entertaining presentation from the University of Buea fan club who presented an African dance which officially welcomed Miss Noela Lyonga to the high table.

From the above entertainment moments, we moved to the first speaker in the person of Dr. Ayuk Justine the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences who presented on how to sustain a positive and productive networking for your personal growth and that of our communities at large. Her presentation was followed by a Fashion Parade by young female paraders from Buea.

Mr. Sona Roland who was representing the Divisional Officer of Buea Sub-District was the next speaker. His topic focused on how we all can grow a humanly conscious lifestyle. It was an amazing presentation as he also focused on how we can sustainably leave our comfort zones and become the best versions of ourselves. His presentation was followed by a poetic and dramatic presentation from Stage life who presented about African Hatred among themselves and need for the restoration of peace and Unity among Africans.

Our great mentor and father of the day, Professor Ernest Molua, the Registrar of the University of Buea, gave an amazing presentation on how to be sustainably confident and productive in achieving your goals. He emphasized on the need to always face the realities of life, be ready, information oriented, self-discovery, disciplined in leadership and effectiveness in time management. After this session, the platform was opened for questions and answers.

The second session of presentations was opened with the first presentation from Miss Anette Ewusi the President of the Change Initiative. She presented on how to successfully work with others for your personal growth and general team targets. Her presentation gave an open door to the next speaker Mr Che Herbert (Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Touching Lives International) who presented on encouraging peaceful cohesion to give Africa a new name. This was followed by another presentation from Mr Tetu Hilary (Volunteer Coordinator – Noela Lyonga Foundation) who presented on why we should promote peace in all our engagements with other people. This ushered Miss Noela Lyonga into the final presentation.
